BREAKDANCE
This is a hi-energy spectacular free-style dance which ranges from basic top rock steps to power moves .... back spins, head spins etc.
This has become an extremely popular class, particularly with boys.(Although we do have quite a few girls in the class) It's billed for Primary 4 & upwards (although we occasionally take kids younger than the P4 age groupif they are really keen) so there's quite a range of ages in the class. However it is a style which requires self-discipline because it is a freestyle dance and the teacher will advise you if he thinks your child is not quite ready.
The kids are all given a good warm up and then divided into groups or worked with individually. They are given various sequences to work on and the teachers work round each group giving them guidance as required. This is where the self-discipline comes in - while the teachers are working with other class members the kids are expected to carry on practicing. They will be given basic steps to start with and when they're ready they are shown more complex power moves. It helps if they like gymnastics!
Everyone in the class is at different levels - some doing basic steps, some doing back spins etc - which means our teachers have to be strict with the kids - safety is tantamount. How fast the pupil progresses depends on how much practice and energy they put into it.
It's a tough style which looks easier than it really is. The classes are taught by Chris Maule of The Flying Jalapenos.
WHAT TO WEAR
Trackies, baggy jeans or combats; T-shirts, trainers etc. (please bring a clean pair of trainers which you don't use for outdoors - to keep the floor clean for the next class)
We recommend that you get some knee & elbow pads - go for the volley ball variety which are soft & flexible - available from good sports shops.
Kids can join the classes at any time through out the year subject to availability of places
TUESDAYS 5.30-6.30pm P4+ Teacher: Chris Maule

FUNKSTYLES (Lockin 'n Poppin / Bodypopping)
Both of these dances are Funkstyles, styles of dance that came from the funk era of the 1970’s West coast America & what most people thing of as "Bodypopping" , but are also considered to be part of Hip-Hop dancing as well as B-boying, the original Hip-Hop dance.
These dances are more upright than B-boying but will include some floorwork
although we will concentrate mainly on the basics up top before we get down
for the get down…..Feel the funk y’all!
WHAT TO WEAR
Trackies, joggers, vests, t-shirts etc. CLEAN trainers or jazz sneakers.

STREETDANCE
This is a funky urban style with lots of attitude, which is popular with both boys and girls. We like to give the kids a range of styles within these classes. So they will learn sequences for hip hop, jazz, etc and also be given a good base in dance technique.
This is different from Breakin in that they work on choreographed pieces with their teachers and are not expected to practice on their own during the class. The music ranges from Chart to R&B to Hip Hop.
Kids can join the classes at any time through out the year subject to availability of places & at present we do have some places left in the current classes
WHAT TO WEAR
Trackies, joggers, vests, t-shirts etc. CLEAN trainers or jazz sneakers. Go for comfort - there's lots of stretching in these classes.
MONDAYS 5.45-6.45pm P1-P4 - Teacher: Val Wilson
WEDNESDAYS 5.45-6.45pm P5+ - Teacher: Sophie Charlwood Green
FLAMENCO
An exciting and dramatic style of dance which encompasses a range of rhythms - Sevillanas, Tangos, Alegrias. Combines precise strong footwork and graceful arm movements which develop your balance, control and coordination skills as well as a fiery passion for the music and dance of Spain.
This is a class for both boys & girls, taught by Isabel Munoz.
Isabel takes them through basic footwork and arm movements and introduces them to some basic choreography so that they quickly get a feel for the dance.
WHAT TO WEAR? Loose comfortable clothing - there's no floor exercises in this so jeans are fine. A hard soled shoe is fine at first if available.
Thursdays 5.00-6.00pm P4+
(This is a rough guide for ages - if your child is younger they can do trial class - the teacher will advise you if she feels they are not old enough)
PRICES
Kids can do a trial class for £5.50 to see if they like it. After that payment is to the end of the term & works out at £4.50 per class plus a £4.50 admin fee - you can pay by cheque or switch/credit card. Please call to reserve a place.
