SALSA

This is a fantastic freestyle dance. You learn to dance on your own as well as with a partner.

Taught by Alexis Alonso Leyva these are very popular and great fun classes. Alexis doesn't pin you down to one particular style of salsa. He teaches a generic style which allows you to dance with anyone. His biggest influences however are from Cuban & Colombian styles - so no head flicking etc as you have in LA or New York salsa. It's more subtle and earthy but at the same time slick and dynamic.

He takes you through basic footwork as your warm up and moves on to the partnerwork. You'll be amazed at what you can pick up in a single lesson. You don't need to bring a partner - you'll change partners several times during the class so you don't get stuck with the same person. We can't guarantee an even number of men and ladies but with more guys joining the classes it's less of a problem and of course some ladies are able to double up and do both parts.

The beginners and intermediate class merges for part of the session on Tuesdays which means you get the opportunity to dance with someone with some experience. This is a great help for beginners and great experience for intermediate guys in improving their leading technique and for ladies in allowing someone else to take the lead!

TUESDAYS 7.10-8.10pm Adult Beginners

TUESDAYS 7.40-8.40pm Adult Intermediate

THURSDAYS 7.15-8.15pm Adult Beginners

WHAT TO WEAR? Cool & Casual. This is a social dance so lots of people dress for an evening out others wear sports gear (especially if they're doing another class on the same evening). Shoes - a smooth sole shoe is best. For ladies - the same with a small heel. However, go for comfort first. Some people wear jazz sneakers and trainers are ok although they're not so easy to turn in.
